Sports in Faizabad

Sports is a universal pastime and in every part of the country, whether the economic condition or weather hazards are, people participate in sports with great enthusiasm. Faizabad is not different from any other part of the country. Faizabad is house to a world class sports complex and it is also the home to the Faizabad International Sports Complex. The Uttar Pradesh State Government has invested heavily for the development of sports infrastructure in the state and it has built several ultra modern sports complexes in the state. Apart from Faizabad, these sports complexes are situated in places like Meerut, Saifai and Greater Noida. The sports complex in Noida is mainly used for cricket while the other sports complexes have facilities for different kinds of sports training.

Faizabad Sports Complex

The Faizabad Sports Complex is a multi-crore development project undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Government for the development of the sports. The sports complex is an international standard sports complex. Different kinds of modern training facilities are available here. The sports complex is one of the most important training centres for the Uttar Pradesh State Cricket team. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association is a tenant of this sports complex.

As per the Government, the Faizabad Sports Complex will have international standard astro-turf and synthetic track for hockey and athletics. Other than these, it will house an Olympic-size swimming pool, cricket training field and hostels for the trainees. Other training facilities like a modern gym, yoga center, indoor training facilities etc will also be available here. The Government and the promoters are hopeful that this facility will help the Indian swimming team for their preparation in future international sporting events. Built along the National Highway 96, the sports complex is well connected with different parts of Uttar Pradesh. The Faizabad Airport is only a few hundred meters away. It is believed that after the sports complex is operational, it will surely help the revival of the Faizabad Airport.

Faizabad International Sports Stadium

The Faizabad International Sports Stadium is known as Bhim Rao Ambedkar International Sports Stadium. It is an integral part of the sports complex undertaken by the state Government. Recently, a financial scam has temporarily stopped the work of the stadium, but the construction process is now underway. It is believed that the sports stadium will be fully operation in 2015. The project will cost around 86 crores of rupees.

Different types of sports, like cricket, football, athletics, swimming, karate, badminton, table tennis, etc can be played in the stadium and it can host more than 30,000 spectators. The different District Sports Associations operating in Uttar Pradesh regularly hold camps in the stadium as well as in the sports complex. The connectivity of the stadium has made it widely popular among the sports organizers.

Sports like kabaddi, kho kho and athletics, specially long distance and short distance running are popular among the players of Faizabad. Many educational institutes in Faizabad have been coaching students in the school premises and with proper training and development facilities, these players can shine brightly in both international and national sports scene.
