Brief History of Faizabad
It is believed that Faizabad or Saket Faizabad had its importance since the time of Ramayana. According to Hindu mythology, this city was known as the private estate of King Dashrath who was the father of Lord Ram. In 1722, Burhan-ul-Mulk became the incharge of Subah of Awadh by Mughal court. Nawab Sa’aadat Khan had temporary dwellings near the banks of river Ghahgra where he made his first settlements with a cantonment consisting of fortress and mud Barracks. Due to these temporary dwellings by Nawab Sa’aadat, Faizabad was known as ‘Bangla.’
In 1722, Avadh was formed and its first Nawab Sa’aadat renamed the city of ‘Bangla’ from Saket to Faizabad, thus making Faizabad as the capital of Avadh. Successor of Nawad Sa’aadat, Nawab Shuja-ud- Daula made this city a place worth visiting. He took complete interest in the administrative of the city and ensured that the city had beautiful gardens, palaces, roads, markets and other infrastructure. Under his administration, Faizabad also became a centre for trade and commerce, thus attracting tourists and businessmen from all over India and Europe.
Later in 1739, Faizabad served as a military headquarters for Avadh. Each of the Nawabs who ruled Faizabad ensured that the city was beautiful than the previous Nawab. Some of the famous monuments built by Nawabs include Gulab Bari, Bahu Begum and Moti Mahal. The jail of Faizabad was also popular as some of our freedom fighters like Ashfaqulla Khan, Subhash Chandra Bose were detained in Faizabad jail.

According to 2011 census, not more than two lakhs people are staying in this city with a ratio of 920 females per 1000 males. Literacy rate of Faizabad is more than eighty five percent.

Faizabad enjoys winters from November to February with the temperature ranging from 6 degrees to 25 degrees. In summers, from March to July the temperature is really high ranging from 35 to 45 degrees. It rains during July to September in Faizabad.
